We were very excited to welcome the Skin Metabolism Meeting to Hope Street Xchange on the 27–29th November 2017. The first two Skin Metabolism Meetings took place in Edinburgh Scotland, 2011 and Valbonne France, 2013 and were both very successful. These meetings showed that this exciting scientific domain is highly relevant for chemical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications and allowed new scientific collaborations to be formed.
In order to maintain such collaborations and to increase the number of community members and students, LEO Pharma, L’Oréal, Charles River and Dr Kalliopi Dodou (University of Sunderland) joined together to co-organize this third meeting under the aegis of the DMDG at the Hope Street Xchange in Sunderland, with contributions to the preparation of the scientific program from Nestlé Skin Health, Bayer, Unilever, Pierre-Fabre, University of Newcastle and University of Strasbourg.
Dr Kalliopi Dodou, Reader in Pharmaceutics, Programme Leader BSc Cosmetic Science and member of the organising committee, commented: “I am delighted to have brought this international research conference and to welcome world experts in skin metabolism research at the University of Sunderland. The scientific programme involved speakers from the dermatological industry and academia from all over the world and allowed communication of the latest scientific developments and the exchange of ideas for future collaborations. Our Cosmetic Science students had also the opportunity to meet and network with the speakers and exhibitors from the Cosmetic industry. All in the organising committee are pleased that the event was a huge success. Delegates were impressed with the venue at the Hope Street Xchange and certainly the event showcased our research on Skin Metabolism and our BSc Cosmetic Science programme!”
The conference program covered six scientific sessions which was kicked-off by an introductory lecture about the past and future of skin metabolism.
Katy Sawyer, Hope Street Xchange Event Coordinator, commented: “We were delighted to host the Skin Metabolism Meeting! People came from all over the world to Hope Street Xchange to discuss the latest in skin science, and it was fantastic for us to be a part of this international meeting of minds.”
